FTP Hosting Help
Web Hosting Help

If you are having trouble, feel free to contact tech support through email, help@cyphernetspace.com, or call us by phone at (416) 994-5580. We are located in Canada, country code 1.
For additional help using FTP software, you can try visiting http://www.ftphelp.org/

Most Common Problems:

The "Log In" link does not work for me
The "Log In" link on the side of the page only works with Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP, and also requires Internet Explorer or Navigator. If the link does not work, you will need to download an FTP client from our free software page. If the link does not work and you have a Windows PC running Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, you may need to enable FTP Folder View, or if FTP Folder view is enabled and Internet Explorer crashes you will need to enable passive FTP mode due to your firewall.

Trouble Logging into an FTP Account:

1) If this is for a FTP hosting package, the FTP server is:
ftp.cyphernetspace.com
Log in with your user name and password.
If this is for a web hosting package, the server is:
cyphernetspace.com
Log in with your user name and password.
These are 2 separate servers. Make sure you are using the correct one.

2) If you are using a firewall or proxy, or can log in but not receive files, you probably need to enable PASV or Passive mode in your FTP software. This option is present in all FTP clients, or is used by default.

3) If this is for a web hosting account, and this is a secondary FTP account that you set up in the control panel, you need to log in using:
server: cyphernetspace.com
username: username@your_domain.com
password: The password you set up.

FTP Hosting Help

Common problems:
I can not connect and I run a FTP proxy, firewall, or IDENT server.
-Enable PASV or Passive Mode in your FTP client. For Internet Explorer, this can be done by going to Tools->Internet Options, then clicking the Advanced tab. Scroll down and you will find an option labelled "Use Passive FTP (for firewall DSL modem compatibility) and make sure it is checked. Click Apply, then click Ok. For other FTP programs, there will often be a checkbox in an options menu.

I can not connect using Internet Explorer or I don't see my files with icons like in Windows Explorer
-First, you need Internet Explorer 5 or higher to use the FTP Folders view. Normally, FTP Folder View is set up automatically for you, however, sometimes it is necessary to set it up yourself.
Setting up FTP Folder View:
Under the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click Advanced. Scroll down until you find an option: "Enable FTP Folder View". Make sure it is checked. (If it is not present, then you may need to add it through the Control Panel setup. Contact tech support for details.) Then click Apply, and press Ok.
You can then connect using: ftp://MyUserName@ftp.cyphernetspace.com/  (Replace MyUserName with your user name.)
If you or someone you want to access your files has Internet Explorer 3 or 4, you must access you files using the following:
ftp://MyUserName:MyPassword@ftp.cyphernetspace.com/
Please keep in mind that in this case the entire address including the password is saved in the address bar.

My upload speed is slower than my download speed, or is very slow.
-This is because of your Internet connection. Often upload speeds for cable and ADSL home connections are about half of what the download speeds are.

Is my password secure when I use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator?
Old versions, versions 5.0 and under of these programs will keep your entire address text in the address bar after you type it in. Therefore, typing in ftp://me:myPassword@ftp.cyphernetspace.com will save the entire line, including the password, in the title bar. Old browsers do not stop others from looking at the full addresses typed in to your browser, so others could see your password by checking out the list of sites that you typed in on your computer. (Note: to get around this glitch you can simply erase the "History" in your browser after you are finished using your computer. This option is found under Internet Options in Internet Explorer, and Preferences in Netscape.)
Also, you can use an FTP client from our software page. These are more secure, faster, and have better features than most Internet Browsers.

How do I close my account with you?
-If you wish to close your account, simply send us an e-mail or support request asking us to do so.

Web Hosting Help

Common issues:

What are the nameservers I should use when I set up my domain?

-They are: ns1.cyphernetspace.com and ns2.cyphernetspace.com. The IPs of these nameservers are: 157.238.45.14
and 157.238.45.15

How do I access my account if my domains are not set up yet (or if I do not have a domain)?
-You can go to:
http://www.cyphernetspace.com/~YourUserName

How do I access my web host control panel?
-You can go to:
http://www.cyphernetspace.com/cpanel
And log in with your web hosting user name and password. This is separate than our FTP control panel.

How do I set up my emails? Will they work if my domain is not yet set up?
-You can set up you e-mails in the control panel. If you have chosen to have a domain, and it is not yet completely set up, you can not receive e-mail since your address is linked to your domain, eg, John@MyDomain.com.

How do I log into my web account using FTP?
-Use the following connection info:
Server: cyphernetspace.com  (Not ftp.cyphernetspace.com. That is our dedicated FTP server.)
User: Your_username@your_domain.com
Password: Your_password

NOTE: If you are the main user (domain administrator,) you can omit the @your_domain.com at the end of the user name. But otherwise, you must include the @your_domain.com when logging in.
E.g., jake14@321records.com

Did you know?
If you have a domain name, you can set ftp.MyDomainName.com to point to your FTP account. That way, others can log in using ftp.MyDomainName.com and it will appear as if it is your server!
